Erol Onel, MD, is a Scarsdale, New York and Parsippainy, Jersey, pharmaceutical physician who has guided drug company efforts to develop treatments for issues such as prostate cancer, female sexual dysfunction, post-surgical pain. Prior to industry, he served as Chief of the Division of Fertility and Sexual Dysfunction in the Urology Department at Tufts University/New England Medical Center. As vice president of clinical research and medical information with Pacira Pharmaceuticals, Inc, Dr. Erol Onel was responsible for the regulatory approval and launch of a non-opioid pain product that was the firm’s primary drug.
Among the medications that Dr. Onel has had a major role in bringing to market is degarelix (Firmagon) for prostate cancer and EXPAREL, a bupivacaine liposome injectable suspension for postsurgical pain. His work on male fertility has achieved such successful results that he still receives letters from families, letting him know how their child is progressing.
Dr. Onel earned his doctor of medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx and completed a urology residency at the University of Connecticut Health Center. Erol Onel, MD, has taught urology to residents and medical students at Tufts University/New England Medical Center.
