These Are the Best Wine Festivals in Summer and Fall 2018

Are you concerned you may have missed out on some of the best wine and food festivals of 2018? If so, you’re not too late to find events where you can sample fine wines and high-quality food prepared by top chefs. Late summer and early fall offer a number of festivals with not only award-winning wines but also a wide variety of wine education events.

Whether you’re looking for a wine event to finish off summer with a bang or you’re searching for a festival to start this fall’s wine-tasting season, you can find a wine event on the following list and sample some top wines from across the country—and even from around the world:

Hudson Valley Wine and Food Fest

The Hudson Valley Wine and Food Fest will take place on September 8 and 9 at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds in Rhinebeck, New York. Every year, the event gives wineries from Hudson Valley and elsewhere in New York the opportunity to showcase their wines. This year’s event will feature some 50 wineries from around the state, including Adirondack Winery from Lake George, Cascade Mountain Winery from Amenia, Christopher Jacobs Winery at Pennings Vineyards in Pine Bush, Damiani Wine Cellars in Burdett, and Tug Hill Vineyards in Lowville.

In addition to sampling local wines, attendees can learn about wine and develop a better nose and palate at wine seminars hosted by wine experts. The Hudson Valley Wine and Food Fest will also feature cooking demonstrations led by top chefs Vincent Tropepe and Kevin Des Chenes, as well as other chefs who have hosted nationally televised cooking shows.

Newport Mansions Wine and Food Festival

Sponsored by the Preservation Society of Newport County, the Newport Mansions Wine and Food Festival will take place at The Elms, Rosecliff & Marble House in Newport, Rhode Island. The festival is scheduled for September 20-23 and opens with the Bordeaux Dinner, a French-inspired event held at The Elms. Guests enjoy a tour of the 18th-century mansion as well as Champagne and a five-course meal served with wines from five Bordeaux vineyards.

Another main event of the festival is the Wine & Rosecliff Gala on September 21. The gala will feature top chefs from the area, including Max Peterson of Hemenway’s and John Wells of Stoneacre Brasserie. The last two days of the festival feature Grand Tastings at the Marble House, where attendees can choose from hundreds of wines from around the globe.

One of the biggest festivals of its kind in the entire country, the San Diego Bay Wine and Food Festival will take place November 12-18 at Embarcadero Marina Park North. In addition to featuring award-winning wines from around the world, the event will include top chefs from some of San Diego’s trendiest restaurants, including AVANT Restaurant and True Food Kitchen. Attendees at this year’s event can expect to sample wines from a number of top wineries, including Bel Vino Winery, Berryessa Gap Vineyards, and Niner Wine Estates.

Seed Food and Wine Miami

Scheduled for November 7-11, Seed Food and Wine Miami stands out as one of the most important plant-based food and wine festivals in the nation. The organizers of the festival are passionate about bringing together people who are committed to a lifestyle based on plant-based foods, conscious living, sustainability, and animal rights. One of the signature events of the festival is the Best of the Best Dinner, which features hors-d’oeuvres and an organic, vegan wine-paired dinner.

Another key part of the festival is the Tasting Village, scheduled for November 10. This daylong event allows participants to sample plenty of plant-based foods, wines, and other treats from more than 180 vendors. In the evening of that same day, guests can relax at the After Party, which will include live music, local food trucks, craft beers, and vegan wines.

Also committed to showcasing local food produce, Seed Food and Wine Miami will feature an event called Made in Miami – The Legends Edition. This event will bring together some of Miami’s best chefs to prepare plant-based dishes made from organic farms in South Florida. Participants will enjoy a five-course meal consisting of fresh food paired with organic wines.

As you look into wine festivals to attend for late summer and fall this year, remember that some signature events at these festivals are booked ahead of time. Also, as each event date approaches, the organizers often add more details about wineries, wine experts, and celebrity chefs that will appear, so check each event page regularly to plan out your itinerary according to the wines and foods you’d like to try at each festival.
